Have you seen the lights which now line our Digbeth streets, a pink topped route to the arts spaces..and a yellow topped route for the custard factory..
Come to find out more around a community-led creative solution to the problems shared, resulting in a unique ‘lighting as way finding’ scheme. As part of the Digbeth Access Group with Grand Union we developed 126 new lampposts to the area, setting out two celebratory routes from arrival into Digbeth.
This project was achieved following 4 years of voluntary time of Intervention Architecture and Grand Union and Birmingham city council, with other local neighbours such as Friends of the Earth, (Stoford and Oval input). Through multiple rounds of bids to Ground work / HS2 funding.
This Digbeth First Friday, our Junction Works space will be taken over by artists Lia Coello, Sireen Martin, Tamara Mbuluko and Ella Paul.
The artists were invited to this showcase by the Grand Union team after seeing their work at the 2025 Birmingham School of Art Degree Show.
We invite you to meet some of the newest artists in the city, get a taste of their work and celebrate as they take their next steps after graduating.

The exhibition forms the second half of GLOAM’s exchange programme, which sees GLOAM partner with other artist-led initiatives to form an exchange of ideas, skill, art, and space.
This year GLOAM is working with free house which is an artist studios based in Digbeth, Birmingham. As part of the exchange GLOAM is hosting an exhibition of work by studio holders and artists attached to free house.
The second half of the exchange will see GLOAM studio holders & directors exhibit in Birmingham at Junction Works in July 2025, facilitated by free house as part of Digbeth First Friday.
GLOAM’s exchange programme is a chance to grow a network of artist-led spaces regionally and nationally to nurture a supportive and enthusiastic community.
“More Than Just 10″, a celebration of 10 incredible years of Intervention Architecture. Join us for a night of creativity, reflection, and fun as we premiere our very own short film (made with Dion Barrett), showcasing a decade of transformative projects and the passion behind our practice journey.
Expect a lively evening filled with celebration, inspiration, and a sneak peek into the future of our studio.
First showing of the film starts at 18.30 with a brief intro. There will also be a Q+A after the first showing, with the practice Directors and team members.

To mark Digbeth First Friday’s 10th birthday (and what a ten years it’s been!), we’ve looked back at our last 10 festivals and picked out a short film from each year to screen. As it’s a birthday celebration, we’re keeping things light and playful – plenty of fun stuff to put smiles on faces. Includes everyone’s favourite creepy claymation Hi Stranger, a brilliant YouTube mashup from artist collective Neozoon, and a super short film by our favourite funny Scottish documentarian Duncan Cowles. Here’s to another 10 years of DFF…

A mini museum will be set up showing and playing part of the current archiving project of the largest south asian record collection in the UK. In 1970 Mohammed Ayub founded Oriental Star Agencies in Birmingham. This record store and label became one of the most influential and important parts of South Asian history and diaspora in the UK and worldwide.
Before the store had to close in 2017, True Form Projects rescued much of the record collection and other artifacts to archive them and keep them protected for future generations. As part of a 3-year National Heritage Lottery Funded project, they are archiving over 3000 records and will be collecting memories of the music and culture contained in these important records.
