Bijan Moosavi, Disco Islam: Future Phantasmagoria

In a fictional Iranian nightclub in a not-so-distant dystopian future, ecological, socio-economic, and human rights issues caused by the expansion of neoliberalism in the Middle East start to unravel.

Bijan Moosavi’s largest solo exhibition to date centres around Disco Islam a sci-fi quasi-commercial video combining CGI, live-action, Islamic kitsch, and music, set in an immersive environment that references club culture, the desert, and the language of corporate advertising.

Join us to celebrate the launch of this year’s EOP Members show by London-based Iranian multimedia artist Bijan Moosavi.

Rajni Perera, Traveller

Everyone is welcome to join us as we launch our new exhibitions!

Toronto-based artist Rajni Perera expands on her visionary ‘Traveller’ series of paintings, pollution wear, and sculpture for a large-scale exhibition in Eastside Projects’ main gallery.

Perera has created a complex diaspora of climate refugees, set against rapidly transforming landscapes. Her Travellers are imagined as having escaped from a planet that is no longer able to support human life with each character occupying a future world with a noble confidence and intelligence, interconnected with others through self and community knowledge maintained and valued as a living culture.

Alongside projects by Rajni Perera, Jon McCurley and Thenjiwe Niki Nkosi, Amy’s project is part of our programme for Birmingham 2022 Festival. Eastside Project’s programme is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund, Arts Council England, Canada House, Canada Council for the Arts and British Council.

Emii Alrai: The Courtship of Giants Celebration

Join us for a belated celebration of Emii Alrai’s brilliant and immersive exhibition (with no fire this time!!!)

Deep within Eastside Projects Emii Alrai is creating a world where medieval hunting traps meet museological dioramas.

Emii’s largest solo show to date folds together an intricate web of references including the legend of Gilgamesh, the capture and coveting of giant artefacts from Iraq such as the Lamassu by the British Museum, the theatricality of medieval hunting arenas, the etymology and history of courting, ancient gravesite constructions, arrows and how wounds have been romanticised by the Pre-Raphaelites, and their obsession with melancholia.

The nature of the installation means there will be reduced capacity in the gallery. We encourage all visitors to take care of each other by wearing a mask.

This will also be a chance to view LOOP in the main gallery.

No booking necessary, however to maintain access for all, there will be a restricted capacity within the gallery and we are encouraging all staff, volunteers and our visitors to maintain social-distancing. For up-to-date information about visiting Eastside Projects, please visit our website.
