Join us on the first Digbeth First Friday of the year which will see our resident artist Rosamaria Kostic Cisneros perform two dances from “Ocean: Import & Export” at 7:30pm and 8:30pm. The performances will be accompanied by a screening of Mahala, which will play on a loop during the evening in the downstairs cafe.
Our current exhibition Cultural Catalysts will also be open to the public in our upstairs gallery. “Ocean: Import & Export” is a Flamenco dance piece telling the story Flamenco Roma dance and contemporary way of dancing whilst drawing on the Cisneros’ cultural identity.
Mahala explores Roma dancing starting from the perspective of the body and references the Mahala, community or neighbourhood. This short screendance film is an offering which will ask the viewer to sit, breathe and reflect on legacies and also consider the future.
The Circular Catalysts documentary exhibition presents objects, texts, sound and photographs captured by Ioana Cîrlig during five creative residencies where contemporary UK artisans were hosted by local organisations working with traditional craftspeople in rural Romania.
